Who Knew?

Did you know that that Saskatchewan’s unemployment rate for August (5.5%) was the fourth lowest unemployment rate in Canada. Canada’s unemployment rate in August was 6.4%.

Ms. Thorn was the founding President of Temple Gardens Mineral Spa Inc. (1992) and was appointed CEO in 1995. Temple Gardens is a 4 ½ star Canada Select award-winning spa resort property, showcasing its mineral-rich geo-thermal waters. Temple Gardens now employs over 200 employees year-round.

Temple Gardens received the Ernst and Young "Entrepreneur of the Year Prairie Finalist Award" (2002) in the business-to-consumer category, along with a National Citation for Innovative Marketing Strategies. Saskatchewan Business Magazine has named Temple Gardens as one of Saskatchewan's "Fastest Growing Companies." Deb credits this success to the positive energy created by many local people who pooled their ideas and their resources to make it become a reality.

Ms. Thorn is active in the tourism and spa industry, and sits on various committees and boards, including the 2005 Mayor's Task Force. She is a founding director of the Spa Canada Association and continues to serve on its Board of Directors. She was named one of Saskatchewan's "Most Influential Women" by Saskatchewan Business Magazine, and was named Moose Jaw's Citizen of the Year in 1996.

Ms. Thorn attended the University of Saskatchewan, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She also holds a teaching certificate from the University of Calgary.
