The Ministry provides information below on prosecutions, convictions and acquittals under Saskatchewan's Labour Standards Act and regulations.

Labour Standards Prosecution Outcomes for 2009-2010

Best Buildings Inc., Moose Jaw

  • Charged on August 10, 2009 for failure to provide records.
  • On November 18, 2009 accused pled guilty.  Fined $400.00 and a surcharge of $80.00.
  • Total fines: $480


Crazy Cactus Restaurant Ltd., Saskatoon

  • Charged on February 12, 2009 for failure to provide records. 
  • On June 8, 2009, the accused pled guilty and received a fine of $400.00 plus surcharges of $50.00.
  • Total fines: $450.00.


Crazy Cactus Restaurant Ltd., Saskatoon

  • Charged on August 11, 2009 with new offences for failure to provide records and failure to pay final wages within 14 days of termination.
  • On October 14, 2009, accused pled guilty to both offences.  Accused (2nd conviction) fined $800.00 plus surcharges of $320.00 for failure to provide records.  Accused fined $100.00 plus surcharges of $50.00 for failure to pay final wages in timely fashion.
  • Total fines: $1270


D & L Heating & Gas Fitting Ltd., Saskatoon

  • Charged on June 24, 2009 for failure to provide records.
  • On August 18, 2009 an additional charge of failure to keep records was laid.
  • On October 14, 2009, accused plead guilty to both offences and was fined $300.00 plus a surcharge of $50.00 on each offence.
  • Total fines: $700


Dairy Queen Grill and Chill, Rochdale and Dairy Queen, Normanview, Regina

  • Charged on January 15, 2009 after a Labour Standards investigation determined the company was in violation of The Labour Standards Act.  The company had been warned of the potential consequences of the failure to provide records.
  • Pled guilty on April 13, 2009 to two charges under The Labour Standards Act in Regina Provincial Court for failure to provide records, Section 66(c).
  • Fined a total of $960.00 and court ordered the production of records as indicated in the Labour Standards demand.
  • Total fines: $960


Golden Oaks Personal Care Home, Regina

  • Charged on July 8, 2009 after a Labour Standards investigation determined the company, after being duly warned, continued to be in violation of The Labour Standards Act, for failing to properly pay overtime wages, pay wages within 14 days of termination and failure to pay public holiday pay to two former employees.
  • On October 15, 2009 accused pled guilty to two offences; failure to pay overtime wages and failure to pay public holiday pay.
  • Accused was fined $600.00 plus surcharges of $240.00 for each charge. 
  • Total fines: $1680


Strictly Construction, Swift Current

  • Charged on June 2, 2009 for failure to provide records.
  • On September 2, 2009 accused pled guilty.  Fined $400.00 and the court ordered the production of records.
  • Total fines: $400


Timberland Janitorial Services, Prince Albert 

  • Charged on June 18, 2009 after a Labour Standards investigation determined the company, after being duly warned, continued to be in violation of The Labour Standards Act by failing to pay wages and failing to produce records on demand.
  • On November 17, 2009 accused pled guilty to nine charges and was fined $200.00 for each offence plus a surcharge of $80.00.
  • Total fines: $2520


Tomas the Cook Restaurant, Saskatoon

  • Charged on January 29, 2009 after a Labour Standards investigation determined the company, after being duly warned, continued to be in violation of The Labour Standards Act by failing to pay overtime wages to a former employee.
  • On November 9, 2009 accused pled guilty and was fined $400.00 plus a surcharge of $80.00.
  • Total fines: $480


Tony Tomas Restaurant (33rd Street), Saskatoon

  • Charged on April 8, 2009 after a Labour Standards investigation determined the company, after being duly warned, continued to be in violation of The Labour Standards Act by failing to pay overtime wages to a former employee.
  • On November 9, 2009 accused pled guilty and was fined $400.00 plus a surcharge of $80.00.
  • Total fines: $480

Tri-Star Security Innovative Security Services Inc., Regina

  • Charged on September 30, 2008 after a Labour Standards investigation determined the company, after being duly warned, failed to properly pay wages and continued to be in violation of The Labour Standards Act.
  • Found guilty on May 4, 2009 to three charges under The Labour Standards Act  in Regina Provincial Court
    • For issuing 2 wage cheques that were not honoured, Section 29  (2)
    • For failure to provide statement of Earning, Section 4 (2) (a) – Minimum Wage Regulations
  • Fined a total of $1440.00.
