Occupational Health & Safety In 1972, Saskatchewan pioneered occupational health and safety legislation in Canada. This was the first jurisdiction to legislate a system that made health and safety the joint responsibility of management and workers, required worker-management occupational health committees to be actively involved in identifying and resolving health and safety concerns and enshrined and protected workers' fundamental rights.
